Portrait of a Woman

My advanced students are studying and drawing portraits from famous historical artists. This week we drew from a portrait by John Singer Sargent. Using the sightsize method, my student did a drawing of a woman in charcoal on drawing paper. Wow! Scroll through the slideshow to see the finished portrait drawing.

Waterlilies

In the midst of COVID-19, we are carefully beginning art lessons again. Today in art class, we took our inspiration from Claude Monet’s waterlilies! The students drew waterlilies and lily pads on watercolor paper. Then they colored their waterlilies and lily pads with oil pastels and painted the water around the flowers with watercolor paint. Lovely!

Penguins

It’s a snowy, winter wonderland outside and today we drew a penguin family! The students drew the penguins with white pastel pencil on black paper. Then they used their white pastel pencils to shade in the lights and left the paper for the darks. Awesome! Scroll through the slideshow to see a penguin drawing.
